John’s joy ride

With the first fresh snow in while I was up early again today to go make the most of it with Nick, whilst getting ready to set off John showed up claiming time off to come riding with us.

Nick scoping out lines and John looking very aware I had my camera out, coming down from Kapall. After getting down to the Nasserein and catching it back up the cloud cover dropped. Under blue skies we skied over to the Rendlbahn and went for little cruise around Rendl before dropping off Hinteres Rendl to find some fresh powder.

Looking back up about half way down the route from Hinteres Rendl.

Being one of the best days of the season so far and my leg is feeling much stronger. Just wish i’d taken some decent photos.

While We Can

An amazing feature length ski film. Great cinematography, equally good riding and gets you thinking. give it a watch.

While We Can (2011) – A film by Andreas Olofsson.

We don’t do what we do to inspire others, it’s just something we have to do to reach our own goals in life. But becoming good at something we could only dream of being good at and getting the chance to influence those who share our ideas and values about skiing and life is something that we are really grateful for.

I would really appreciate if you took the time to sit down with your best sound available (preferably headphones) and really focus the first time you watch this. [Only got one opportunity to make a first impression.] Thanks.

One of the main thoughts behind the project from the beggining was to give something back to those who share our passions and have been less fortunate.

You like the film? I would like everyone that like and supports what we do to purchase a DVD to save in their bookshelf for the future. It’s non-profit and all profit will be given to help-organizations focusing on helping skiers/snowboarders suffering from lifechanging injuries.

Back on the school ski trip

Yesterday my alarm was set for 6:45 am, I crawled out of bed at 7. Certainly haven’t seen those hours of the morning in a while.

My reason for such an early start was to catch the first bus over to lech so I could meet friends in Warth Schrocken from the school trip I learnt to ski with.

I made it to Oberlech for about 8:20 and took the gondola up but then had to wait quater of an hour for the Petersboden chair to open. Once up it was a short cruise down a blue run before strapping my skis to my back and starting the hike over to Warth. The walk was easy than I expected and I got a great view along then way.

I made it to the Sonnenjet-Auenfeld lift on the far side of the resort for about 9:30, after a chat with the guy at the lift and a quick blast down black 1 I got my lift pass for the day. Back up the top I skied down to Warth to meet up with everyone.

Having skied this resort as a novice on a school trip 3 years ago it was strange skiing runs I remembered to be a lot steeper and longer.

At the bottom of the piste the first thing I noticed was the coach the school always uses for the ski trip. I then bumped into the ski trip regulars and my old teachers from school, plus a couple of friends who still attend sixth form there. It was great catching up with them all again and spending the day ripping round the resort.

Around 2:45 I started heading back, not realising the distance I covered skiing to Warth it hit me how much uphill there was when I had to hike back up.

After a short stop for a well earned mars bar and some water where it started to flatten off I made it back to the Weibermahd lift in lech for 3.30. I had a gentle cruise, as my legs couldn’t handle anything else, down to Lech village with plenty of time to spare before the 4:10 bus back.

Back in St Christoph I just had time to ice my leg, have a shower and my evening meal before starting work at 6. I had an amazing day but by the time I had finished work I was absolutely exhausted. Safe to say I slept extremely well.

Inspiration

Josh Dueck is just awesome! If you’d need some inspiration to push yourself to the next level watch this…

touring route

on Tuesday I went to find some powder in the backcountry with Nick and Harry. We took one of the touring routes off the back of Stuben, traversing from the Albona II chairlift.

After about a half hour traverse with some great views of the backcountry we dropped into some amazing rolling hills covered in waist deep powder. Photo taken with instagram on my Iphone.

A little lower down we rode through densely packed trees where, still being cautious with my leg, i scoped out several nice drops and pillow lines to attack when i’m feeling strong enough again. Down at the bottom looking back up whilst wait for the bus to come…
